Each PCF file is a distinct particle system, meaning that particle definitions contained in a PCF file are not used by particles in a different PCF File. The other 5,591 definitions are what are known as Child particles that are add to and make up these Parent Particles. Of these 10,214 particles, only 4,623 of them are actual Parent type Particle definitions. It does not go into custom particle systems available for download from the Workshop or other games. This particular guide will only cover these. These PCF are containers for a multitude of individual particle definitions, 10,214 to be exact. Just looking at Source Filmmaker and the DLC content for it, there are 433 distinct particle (PCF) files available. Because these games all use the Valve Source Game engine, most of the assets (including the Particle PCF files) can be ported to SFM to to enhance the assets already available to it. These range from the commercial versions of Half-Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead series, Bloody Good Time, Dino D-Day, DOD, Black Mesa, etc, to the Free to Play games like Team Fortress 2, Alien Swarm, Fist Full of Dollars, Codename CURE, D.I.P.RIP, Modular Combat, No More Room In Hell, Thinking with Time Machine, etc and a couple of Demo Games like Dark Messiah and Zeno Clash. I have gathered quite a few different Games and Mods over the years that use the Valve Source Game Engine (40 of them actually and the various SDKs that go with them).
